Innovative tools in library instruction have become crucial for effectively sharing information
and teaching users to utilise library resources efficiently in the digital age. Without these tools,
library services and management can face significant challenges. This study examines the
adoption of innovative tools for library instruction and services in selected Federal University
libraries in Nigeria's South-South region. The study examines the following: innovative tools
available for library instruction and services, library services provided with innovative tools,
the impact of using innovative tools on library instruction and services, and the challenges faced
in utilising these innovative tools. The study adopted a descriptive research method and used
total enumeration sampling techniques, as the study population of 84 was considered
manageable. The study used a questionnaire to collect data. The study used frequency counts
and simple percentages for data analysis. The study found that social media, OPAC, and library
websites are key innovative tools. Respondents indicated that library services utilising these
tools include Reference services, Current Awareness services, and more. These innovative tools
expand the scope of library services and improve access to information, among other benefits.
However, respondents also identified challenges, including limited funding, inadequate ICT
infrastructure, and other issues. The researcher thus recommends adopting AI apps and suggests
that the university library collaborate with the ICT Department to enhance service efficiency for
patrons.
